Frekwencja i punktualność
Illinois law requires that whoever has custody or control of any child between age 6 (by September 1st) and 17 years of age shall assure that the child attends school in the district in which he or she resides, during the entire time school is in session (unless the child has already graduated from high school). Illinois law also requires that whoever has custody or control of a child who is enrolled in the school, regardless of the child’s age, shall assure that the child attends school during the entire time school is in session.
Zgłaszanie nieobecności
A parent or guardian must call their school by 9 a.m. each day their child is not in attendance. If a call is not received and a reason for an absence not provided, school personnel will attempt to call a parent/guardian at home or work, or interview the student upon their return. Students will be marked unexcused if a reason for an absence is not provided.
To report your child's absence, please call your school's main office and leave a message on the school's attendance line.
- Choroba
- Obchodzenie święta religijnego
- Śmierć w najbliższej rodzinie
- Nagły wypadek rodzinny
- Inne sytuacje zatwierdzone przez administrację szkoły
Unexcused Absences
Absences may be considered unexcused for reasons including, but not limited to:
- Oversleeping or missing the bus
- Family vacations or trips taken during scheduled school days without prior administrative approval
- Personal errands or appointments that could reasonably be scheduled outside of school hours
- Babysitting, caring for family members, or other household responsibilities
- Leaving school without permission or skipping class
- Absences for which the school does not receive parent/guardian notification or documentation
Schools will address unexcused absences through a series of parent/guardian contacts by teachers, social workers/counselors, and school administrators. The aim of these contacts will be to firmly establish solid attendance habits for the student. Unexcused absences are, however, the responsibility of parents/guardians, who are subject to penalties under state and local truancy laws.
Truancy
Student attendance is critical to the learning process. Unreported absences are unexcused and considered truancy. Chronically truant is any student absent without valid cause for 10 percent of the previous 180 regular attendance days, and chronic truancy is reported to the Regional Office of Education.
If chronic truancy persists after support services and other resources are made available, the school and the District will take further action, including:
- Referral to the truancy officer
- Reporting to officials under the Juvenile Court Act
- Referral to the State’s Attorney
Nieobecności związane ze zdrowiem psychicznym
District 2 is committed to partnering with families to address students’ needs and connect them with appropriate support and resources when concerns arise. Illinois School Code considers the mental and/or behavioral health of a student to be a valid cause for absence from school. These days are intended to support students experiencing mental or behavioral health concerns and should not be used as vacation or recreational days.
Therefore, parents/guardians may keep a student from school for up to five mental health absences with no need to provide a medical note for mental health needs. If reported to the school as mental health absences, they will be excused, and the student will be able to make up missed schoolwork.
Mental health absences can indicate a student needs additional support. If a student takes two or more mental health days during the school year, the school will contact their parents/guardians to conduct an emotional wellness check and determine if the student requires additional mental health support at school.
